Dr. Mary L. Fischer is a Professor of Accounting at the University of
Texas at Tyler. She has served as Chief Accountant, Controller and Assistant
to the Financial Vice President at University of Connecticut. She has
also served as Controller at Columbia University in New York and at Wesleyan
University in Connecticut. She taught at Fairfield University before joining
the University of Texas. Dr. Fischer has written a wide array of articles
on accounting education, cash flow, fund accounting, college and university
accounting, unrelated business tax, and financial administration. She
is a co-author of the fourth edition of College and University Business
Administration and the updated Basic Fund Accounting training package.
She received both the NACUBO Daniel D. Robinson Award and the Professional
Development and Scholarship Award for her outstanding contributions to
the college and university national sector.
Private Institutions
Tom Guinan joined the Controller's Group at the University of Notre Dame as the Associate Controller, in July 2002. Tom directs the Accounting and Financial Services, Research and Sponsored Programs Accounting and Payment and Procurement Services divisions within the Controller's Group. He reports directly to the Assistant Vice President for Finance and Controller. Tom has played a lead functional role in the implementation of the Finance and HR/Payroll ERP systems implementations from 2003-2006 and continues to work on information reporting initiatives combining the resources of the IT and functional units. Tom also plays a coordination and management role in Notre Dame's Institutional Risk and Compliance Committee.
Tom received bachelor's degrees in Business Administration (Accountancy, 1991) and Arts (Theology, 1992) and also received a Master of Arts degree (Theology, 1993) from Notre Dame.
Prior to joining the Controller's Group, Tom was an auditor for over eight years with Ernst & Young's Not-for-Profit Business Services Group in New York City where he reached the position of senior manager. In 2001, while still with Ernst & Young, Tom earned his Master of Business Administration degree from Columbia University. Tom has been a certified public accountant since 1996.
Jason Schroeder is a Senior Manager for financial reporting at the University of Notre Dame. Jason's responsibilities include the coordination of the University's year-end reporting processes, including preparation of the University's audited financial statements. Jason has experience with IRS, NCAA and federal research reporting compliance, as well as foreign statutory reporting required for certain international programs. Jason also plays a technical role in the development of internal reporting initiatives that combine the resources of the University's IT and functional units.
Jason is a 1993 graduate of Notre Dame and joined the Controller's Group there in 2001. Prior to returning to Notre Dame, Jason served as an auditor with Price Waterhouse and as an officer in the U.S. Army. Jason has been a certified public accountant since 1997.

Continued Professional
Education Credit (CPEs): CACUBO is pleased to sponsor continuing
education for the higher education community. Participants in
the Introduction to Higher Education Accounting Workshop who wish
to apply for CPE credit with their professional organizations
can obtain a certificate or letter of completion at the end at
the end of the workshop. The maximum number of CPEs you can apply
for is based on (1) one CPE for each 50 minutes of schedule programming,
and (2) a participant attending all scheduled programming. |
