(October 9, 2007) -- As part of its continuing effort to create better, more efficient, and customer-friendly business practices within its membership institutions, the Central Association of College and University Business Officers (CACUBO) created a Best Practices Award Program. Corporate support of this program is provided by RBC Capital Markets. CACUBO presented its 2007 CACUBO RBC Capital Markets Best Practices Award to Ginny Layton, Bursar at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Layton's winning submission titled "Effective Management of Accounts Receivable" showcased Miami's efforts to improve student retention, generate additional revenue, reduce expenses, and increase staff morale through a series of benchmarking metrics to measure its Bursar Office operations. Miami University received a $1,000 honorarium and Layton presented her winning proposal at CACUBO's Annual Meeting in Chicago on Oct. 9. Second-place award and a $500 honorarium went to Dave Jackson, Wendy Moorehead, and Jeri King from the University of Iowa for its submission titled "Route 66 Safety Program." Iowa implemented this program to encourage its facilities management staff to think about working safely. Teams earned points for consistent safety practices throughout the year and mapped their progress along the historic Route 66. CACBUO awarded third place and $500 to Edward Nieskes and Heather Lee from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee for its program titled "Throwing Out the Paper and Keeping the Data." This program submission focused on implementing document imaging within UW-Milwaukee's accounts payable operations. Program submissions were reviewed by 24 program reviewers who judged the submissions based on the effectiveness of the best practice, its measurable benefits, its applicability to other higher education institutions, and future institutional benefits. CACUBO wishes to thank each of the participants in its 2007 awards program. Copies of all program submissions will be available on CACUBO's website shortly. The 2008 Awards Program will be forthcoming in December. Questions regarding CACUBO's program may be directed to bestpractices@cacubo.org. |

Does your institution have a "Best Practice" that you would like to share? The 2008 Annual Meeting Program Committee will begin their search for "Best Practices" that can be used as models for other higher education institutions within a few short months. We invite you to share your ideas and practices with fellow CACUBO members at the annual meeting in Ft. Lauderdale, FL on October 12-15, 2008. Guidelines and information will follow within a few short weeks. This is another great opportunity to share information and interact with members of CACUBO. | ||
