2008 BEST PRACTICES AWARD PROGRAM HONORS
UNIVERSITY of MISSOURI SYSTEM, WRIGHT STATE AND WISCONSIN-STOUT

(October 14, 2008) -- As part of its continuing effort to create better, more efficient, and customer-friendly business practices within its membership institutions, the Central Association of College and University Business Officers (CACUBO) created a Best Practices Award Program. Corporate support of this program is provided by RBC Capital Markets.

CACUBO presented its 2008 CACUBO RBC Capital Markets Best Practices Award to William M. "Bill" Cooper, Associate Vice President and Chief Procurement Officer at University of Missouri-System. Cooper's winning submission titled "University of Missouri Gets Strategic about Procurement" showcased Missouri's efforts to improve campus purchasing by consolidating operations under uniform leadership and policies, reducing costs, and creating a more service-oriented system that would address the needs of campus users. The University of Missouri-System received a $1,000 honorarium and Cooper presented his winning proposal at CACUBO's Annual Meeting in Ft. Lauderdale on Oct. 14.

Second-place award and a $500 honorarium went to Jerry Black from Wright State University of Ohio for its submission titled "Transformation from Transactional Procurement to Strategic Sourcing and E-Procurement at a Public University." Through a three-step approach, the campus maximized its campus purchasing by utilizing the principles of strategic sourcing, initiating e-procurement, and implementing an Invitation to Negotiate (ITN) process.

CACBUO awarded third place and $500 to Bob Dodge from the University of Wisconsin-Stout for its program titled "Enhanced Safety Awareness Program." This program submission focused on reducing the number of preventable accidents within its custodial department.

Program submissions were reviewed by 28 program reviewers who judged the submissions based on the effectiveness of the best practice, its measurable benefits, its applicability to other higher education institutions, and future institutional benefits.

CACUBO wishes to thank each of the participants in its 2008 awards program. Details regarding the 2009 program will be forthcoming in December. Questions regarding CACUBO's program may be directed to bestpractices@cacubo.org
