History

The Central Association of College and University Business Officers (CACUBO) was the first regional association of business officers to be established. Business officers from six midwestern state institutions met in 1909 to discuss accounting and financial reporting. This meeting marked the beginning of cooperative action among midwestern higher education institutions. CACUBO was formally organized in 1912 and acquired its present name in 1946. Since it’s founding, CACUBO has grown to 648 member institutions/organizations.

CACUBO members represent institutions large and small, public and private, from community colleges to small independent institutions to large research institutions. CACUBO is one of four regional associations (Central, Eastern, Southern, Western) making up the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO).

Since 1909, the Central Association of College and University Business Officers (CACUBO) has offered business officers in the North Central area of the United States opportunities to develop professionally, share thoughts, problems and solutions, enjoy a forum for professional and social contact with colleagues, and speak in concert on matters affecting higher education.

CACUBO is a volunteer led association, without paid staff, that operates using a committee structure. Since its formal organization in 1912, eighty-eight different presidents have served CACUBO.

In recognition of the importance of business officers to the success of colleges and universities, this association has charged the Professional Development Committee with the following mission:

To provide leadership and direction for CACUBO professional development by:

  • Assessing the professional development needs of the membership.

  • Providing professional and personal development opportunities, as well as leadership training, for all levels of staff in business and financial management.

  • Evaluating programs for consistency with the assessed needs of the membership.

It is within this context that CACUBO, in cooperation with NACUBO and the other regions, gives professional development its highest priority.
